Counseling for Children
You have been there for them every step of the way, but your child still cannot seem to succeed. You can see their struggle, but are helpless to change it. You spend your days agonizing over their schedule, homework, chores and still they struggle. You see their potential, but they are not rising to meet it. You are doing the best you can, but it still does not seem to be enough.

They seem to greet each day with a groan, frustrated from the time they wake up. Every small task seems like an insurmountable obstacle and it requires all your problem-solving, energy and patience. It seems like every action requested is an argument waiting to happen. You find yourself checking over their shoulder after every small task - did they brush their teeth? did the feed the cat? did they bring their homework home?

You're exhausted by the end of each day and despair that it will get any better. You worry what everyone thinks of your parenting skills, but know you've poured your energy into helping your child succeed. Secretly you worry it's not enough. That they will fail.
Imagine that your child was able to handle school, friendships, family and life better. That they were succeeding and you could sit back and enjoy their pride. That they would come to you for love, support and nurturing, not just to complain.

Life can get better. Our goal is to help you and your child grow into new skills, managing tasks without a breakdown and succeeding where they used to struggle. We work with children and their families to grow into a healthier pattern of relationships, work ethics and frustration tolerance.

Many of the children that come to Berger Counseling Services are bright, imaginative and gifted. But they do not seem to be rising up to their potential. It feels like they are accepting mediocrity, OK with being like everyone else instead of the genius, star or hero they were born to be. We work together with families to raise the bar, by helping children see their own brilliance and want to live up to their own potential.

Children often fear their own brightness, worried that they will stand out from the crowd, that it might open them up to bullying or losing friends. We can help them find their true selves while building healthy relationships with peers, friends and family. A healthy, well-rounded child is a bully-proof kid!

We know that talking can get in the way, so we incorporate art, play, games, sandtray and horses into our services. Why? Simply because we can "see" our old patterns, communication styles and ways of handling situations. Then we get to try out new ones in a safe setting. When our children see that playing small does not serve them, they will rise to the occasion.
