Gifted & Struggling
Your child is brilliant, amazing and gifted...but they just can't seem to use their gifts. So many things seem to get in their way - anxiety, sensory issues, self esteem. They can think around corners and come up with amazing inventions, but cannot get out of their own way.
You thought you'd be able to read, watch and hear enough on your own to help your child succeed. You're an amazing parent and cheerleader extraordinaire, but nothing seems to be helping. You have found a million resources for them, but nothing seems to be working. They seem stuck, spinning their wheels.

You see how brightly your child would shine...if only these hurdles were out of their way. You wish you could do it for them, but know you cannot. You've tried everything in your toolbox, now it's time to try something new.
Imagine if your child was able to flourish. Living up to their potential. Able to manage anything that life throws at them. Using their gifts for more than getting out of things.

We know that giftedness does not always guarantee success in life. Too often we hear "if they are so smart, why are they failing?" or "they have so much potential but don't use it." There can be so many things holding a gifted person back from shining. Fears, anxiety, self-esteem and sensory issues often get in the way. At Berger Counseling Services, we work with the whole family to create a successful future.

But...how do we get a super smart kid into therapy if they don't want to be? That's actually a common problem for families with gifted kids and teens. We work with families to identify what they notice going on with their child. Then we explore ways to get them to our site for our free meet and greet. During that time, we work hard to build rapport with your kiddo. You might hear us geek out about Harry Potter, Star Wars, Legos or Kafka. You might hear us talk about our difficulties being gifted and not using it. All of this is designed to get them interested in coming back. Therapy does not have to be stuffy and boring.
Motivating gifted children and teens means finding things they are interested in and building healthier engagement strategies. We might focus on how to problem solve sensory issues so they can focus and be successful. Other times we work on taking any small step to challenge deep held beliefs about anxiety, self esteem and competency.
At Berger Counseling Services, we offer a variety of best practice services that allow children, teens and adults to grow and flourish. Check out our blog, Too Smart For Their Own Good.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine...
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
